Property for a Pilgrim People
The conference will consider how as a Church we understand property from the “sacred space” to the commercial “asset” which can be sold or developed for the broader mission of the Church. The question will be raised as to whether the property we have defines the Church and its mission, or whether what the Church is called to be in our time and context determines the sort of property we need.
Rev. Niall Reid was the Moderator of the Uniting Church Synod of NSW & the ACT from 2007-2011 having served as the Minister of the Word in a number of congregations over the previous 25 years. From 2011 to 2013 he served as Chairperson of Sydney Presbytery. In 2012 he was engaging with the local community where he lived participating in various community activities, building relationships and reflecting on how the Church might connect with those no longer connecting with the church. In 2014 he was called by the Synod to engage the Church in a conversation around the effective use of property for the mission of God.
