CHFA to proceed with restructure to a National Industry body
“Defunding national community advocacy organisations decimates the voices of civil society, with highly skilled experts from the community no longer around the tables with government and business in 2015 to work on solutions to some of the country’s national challenges. What happened to this Government’s commitment not to gag the community? You don’t get a bigger gag clause than completely defunding community advocacy,” Dr Cassandra Goldie – CEO of ACOSS said.
The Community Housing Federation of Australia (CHFA) Board held a joint meeting with CHFA’s National Industry body (NIB) Working Party on 3 February to review the proposal to restructure CHFA and State peak community housing organisations into a single national industry body. This meeting followed the Federal Government’s recent announcement that it will terminate the current funding contract with CHFA as of 30 June 2015, one year earlier than the current contract term.
