Appearance at NSW State Housing Inquiry

30/07/2014

2014 NSW housing Inquiry 2 2014 NSW housing Inquiry 1

Our Executive Officer Magnus Linder, along with Anglicare’s Sue King and Rob Burnelek from Salvos Housing, appeared before the NSW Legislative Council Inquiry into Social, public and affordable housing to give evidence regarding their recent submissions.

Prior to our appearance, we listened to some heart-breaking stories from representatives of the Independent Park Residents Action Group, where there were many incidents of elderly residents being evicted or treated unfairly as they had no security of tenure in the parks they lived in.

When our representatives took the stand, the committee was very pleased to hear that churches had already been a major contributor to housing and service provision in the past and had plans to continue providing solutions at many different levels into the future.  The overall feel of the session was positive and we were commended for our commitment and efforts in suggesting solutions and being part of the solution to NSW’s growing housing crisis.
